Sources & methodology
We hold ourselves to the UK advertising standards for factual claims. This page explains how we describe our work and where our statements come from.
Performance claims
We do not publish energy-saving figures as a promise. Results from our research were obtained in building-energy simulation, and the saving achieved in any real building depends on its systems, usage and climate. We will publish live-building results, with their basis and measurement method, once they have been independently validated in our pilot.
Building and HVAC energy statistics
The figures on our home page are industry estimates, not measurements of any particular building. Buildings account for roughly 30–40% of global energy consumption (UN Environment Programme, Global Status Report for Buildings and Construction; US Department of Energy). Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) typically represents around 40–50% of a commercial building’s energy use (US Department of Energy; ASHRAE), and 15–30% of HVAC energy is estimated to be wasted through outdated, schedule- and rule-based control (US Department of Energy, Building Technologies Office). Shares vary by building type, climate and age, which is why we quote ranges.
What we control
INOVEE AI actively controls heating and cooling systems and is designed to work with a building’s existing HVAC and building management systems (BMS), which keep their own safety limits and overrides. We do not control ventilation.
Partners and pilots
We name a partner only where the relationship is confirmed and the partner has agreed to be named. Our first commercial pilot is in a UK commercial asset; we do not name the building or its owner.
Research basis
Our method originates in doctoral research at University College London on deep reinforcement learning for building energy optimisation. We describe what the system does, not how the method works internally, because that is proprietary.
